Glögg is hot, mulled or spiced wine from Sweden, perfect for cold winter evenings. Variations are optional and add great personalized taste to your own!

  • 750 mL red wine
  • 1 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 fresh orange peel (or 2 tbsp if dried)
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 5 cardamom pods (or 1 tsp if ground)


  • Mix the wine, brandy, spices, fruit, and nuts in a pot (and any optional additions you might like)
  • Heat the mixture for about 45 minutes, being careful not to boil the alcohol away — just let it simmer on a very low heat setting
  • Strain through cheese cloth to remove all additions.
  • Serve the Glögg with raisins and almonds added back, and floating in it.
